In Palestine, especially; in the besieged Gaza Strip with its unique conditions, a green step was necessary to be taken in the field of entrepreneurship; Green Solutions Bootcamp (GSCamp).
GSCamp is the first of its kind in Palestine that mainly targets productive projects in the fields of agriculture and environment. The event took place in Gaza from 13th to 15th of March, 2017. Out of the 170 received applications, only 13 entrepreneurial projects in the targeted fields have been selected to join GSCamp. The selected ideas represented potential solutions to develop green economy. Several recycle techniques were proposed for wood, plastic, glass and paper, in addition, innovative methods for hydroponic agriculture were presented.
The GSCamp was organized by Green Knowledge Community (GKC) and Global Shapers Community – Gaza Hub (GSC) and sponsored by the Islamic Relief – Palestine and the Department of States through Fulbright program.
Over 35 volunteers, mentors and national/international experts provided invaluable support and efforts in the success of GSCamp. The main
aims of the GSCamp were to come up with ideas that would contribute at improving the quality of Gazans life through establishing start-ups with social impact especially in the fields of agriculture and environment, and raise awareness of the challenges facing the targeted fields. For this purpose and in order to give teams and mentors sufficient time to study the market, a pre-event was held one week before the GSCamp.
During the three days of GSCamp, 36 participants were introduced to the lean startup and business model, marketing, customer validation and
tracking, pitching skills, teamwork and financial tips and many intensive mentorship sessions. Those sessions were presented by experts from Gaza, Jordan and Philippine.
By the end of the GSCamp, three ideas were selected to receive seed fund to establish their projects.
At GKC, we believe in collective work and engagement, and this event would not be possible without the assistance of the fantastic volunteers who believe in our vision.
